Chelmsford is a suburban community of approximately 35,000 residents located in Middlesex County near the intersection of Route 3 and Interstate 495 in Middlesex County. It borders Westford, Tyngsboro, Billerica, Carlisle, and the City of Lowell. It is a popular area with home buyers largely due to its convenient location for commuters (with easy access to major highways) and strong school system.

Founded in 1653, Chelmsford was originally a farming community. While much of the old farmland has since been developed, you can still see some of the older homes and historical landmarks sprinkled throughout town.
Chelmsford offers residents numerous shopping centers and countless dining options. Shopping options include everything from Market Basket and Stop & Shop to Kohls and Michaels. There are hardware stores and pharmacies, small boutique type shops and the big box stores alike.
The town center is host to numerous activities throughout the year (including the farmer's market). It's also a great spot to watch the local parades around Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. Within Chelmsford, you'll also find a vibrant town library and an active rec department.
Chelmsford houses a portion of the newly completed first phase of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail which runs through Westford, Chelmsford, and Lowell.
Chelmsford has access to the MBTA Lowell Commuter Rail Line through bus service to Lowell Station.
Chelmsford is divided by zip code into Chelmsford (01824) and North Chelmsford (01863). The northern parts of Chelmsford tend to be more urban and densely populated, and the southern sections more rural. North Chelmsford provides some of it's own municipal services, but is run by the same town government and shares a school system with Chelmsford.
Chelmsford Schools consistently rate very highly across Massachusetts. Students are assigned to schools based on geography for elementary schools for grades K-4 and middle school for grades 5-8, and then Chelmsford High for grades 9-12.
